Welcome To My Misadventures

Roger Engle's new short story, The Lost Flip Flop, begins a series of true stories about his life in the Mosquito Coast region of Honduras. You see…I am a missionary in Honduras, and I decided to write about the things in my life that I thought were interesting because, more than likely, someone else will also think they’re interesting.  So I started writing all these stories and someone said.  “Wow Roger!  You should publish this stuff!”  So I figured out how to put an e-book on Amazon and then started thinking about how difficult it all was when everyone said it would be easy.  Not only that, but also how easy it will be for my little book to get forgotten about in the mega-mall of Amazon.  So I decided to figure out how to keep that from happening and here I am.

I began this blog in an attempt to learn and share all the things I can about how to keep my book, that I threw my heart into writing, from becoming just that much more cyber-debris.  None of us want to write a book, take the time to figure out how to publish it online and then just sit back on our couch and tell our friends that we once published a book.  Heck, they probably did too, for that matter.  If we believed in the first place that it was worth writing, then we must also believe that it’s worth learning some marketing and networking skills to promote that book and give it the best chance at survival…right?

Join me on this quest for longevity for the sake of my book and yours, and let’s get them noticed!

Thank you for following my blog and I hope you find it useful – I noticed you liked my “Tabs in Word” post so you might like to know there will be more of that kind of post coming!

Good luck with your continued writing and publishing efforts.

By the way, I can see what your blog title is, so not sure if you need to reformat it – or maybe you have!

      Liz,
I did like “Tabs In Word”. It was a good article. Well explained and very useful information. I didn’t know how to use the tabs and tab stops in Word. If I had set my mind to it I would have eventually figured them out, given enough time, but honestly, I was scared of them. I once tried to adjust the indent of a specific paragraph by using tab stops and messed my entire document up. I had to cut/paste out of that document and start a new one. So it was a subject that interested me, to say the least.
I did notice that you’re planning to make more instructional articles and I am already looking forward to them. Thanks for you visit to Misadventures In La Mosquitia. I hope it won’t be your last. 🙂

Hi Roger, thanks for the like on my blog. It’s so nice to know that I’m not the only person out in Blogland who’s technicially challenged. I just recently learned how to make smiley faces, but still can’t link to other blogs or do a blogroll. I’ve been thinking about self publishing, but just recently started being published on other websites; so as you know thinking and doing are 2 different things. I look forward to more of your posts. Regards.

Hi Sandra! Thanks for the visit to MY blog too! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I hope it won’t be the last time we see you. For links and blogrolls I can tell you how to do those. How about if I make it my mission to post on here about both of them? Sound good?
You had two comments but the other one looked the same as this one only shorter, so I deleted it and replied to this one.
Once again, thanks for the tag-back.

No problem Angeline, I loved that picture of the purple flower…was it an Iris? I think it was. Thanks for returning the visit. I hope you’ll be back.

Dear Mr. Rodger, thank you for stopping by my article. I write not a book but a collection of thoughts which may help stave Global warming! Honduras too has its own set of environmental issues, if my ideas help you are free to utilize them.

Thank you Oyeta. You are welcome for the visit. I do what I can to stay informed. Thanks for writing about our environment. People need to be aware of environmental issues. You are correct. Honduras has many environmental issues. I’ll check in from time to time for anything that may be useful.

Best of luck with your quest. 🙂 Sometimes, I feel like publishing a book, too, given that I wrote one or two short stories in Bangla. But I don’t think I’m creative enough to come up with stories that compel. So, I just gave up the idea of becoming a published author. A lot depends on luck and creativity.

      Hi Sajib,
I figured I had better respond to your comments quickly 🙂
It does burn me up when I visit someone’s blog, leave a comment and maybe even click the like button or follow it only to get no response. It’s hard to keep up with them all if you’re busy, but you should try to make the time at least once a day. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I enjoyed your post.
The short story is quite funny, and that’s not just my opinion. I originally wrote it all down because my friends would repeatedly ask me to tell it and I got sick of trying to remember all the details. Once I realized that I had a talent for non-fiction humor I started thinking of more funny stories from my past and writing them down. I have a list of about 20 I’m writing for a series entitled Misadventures in La Mosquitia. (Hence the blog name) If they get any recognition then I’ll have to do compilation and a print run. It’s all in the name of fun right now, though. Thanks for the well wishes.

Hm. I suggest you format the title of the blog because I didn’t notice at first that it was Misadventures in La Mosquitia.

Not silly, actually. Not everyone is a geek. 😉

So…I looked for a way to format the blog name last night, but I couldn’t find it. I’m a geek, but not a very knowledgeable one when it comes to blogging. How do I do that?

Oh, Ledia you are oh so welcome! Thanks for the same! I love your blog because I have always wanted to visit the orient one day. It’s a little like being there when I’m reading it. Thanks for working so hard to share Japan with us westerners.
